Common Questions
What is my ideal weight?
Your ideal weight depends on your height, gender, and body frame. Common formulas like Devine and Hamwi estimate a healthy weight range. Use the calculator above for a personalized estimate.
Devine vs Hamwi — which is better?
The Devine formula is widely used in medical settings and tends to give slightly lower estimates. The Hamwi formula is simpler and often used for quick estimates. Both are approximations — your healthy range is usually between them.
What is the ideal weight by height?
For men, a common rule of thumb is 48 kg for the first 152 cm of height, plus 1.1 kg per additional cm. For women, it is 45.5 kg for the first 152 cm, plus 0.9 kg per additional cm. The calculator above applies these formulas precisely.
Does frame size matter for ideal weight?
Yes. People with larger frames can carry more weight healthily, while smaller frames tend toward the lower end of the range. A frame-size adjustment of roughly ±10% is commonly applied.
What is the ideal weight for women and men?
At 170 cm, the Devine formula gives about 66 kg for men and 59 kg for women. The Hamwi formula gives about 68 kg for men and 61 kg for women. Your healthy range typically falls between these values.
